IN THE BEGINNING

BIOEFFECT was founded by three Icelandic scientists when they discovered, after over a decade of research, a way to bioengineer a plant-based human replica of EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) in barley plants. EGF is one of the most important growth factors for skin, helping to boost production of collagen and elastin to maintain healthy, dense and youthful skin.

OUR HERO

The flagship product, BIOEFFECT EGF Serum, was launched in Iceland in May 2010. In the years since BIOEFFECT has become a global success and is sold in premium stores worldwide. The product line has also grown and will continue to expand over the next couple of years.

THE SCIENCE OF NATURE

Biotechnology is a science that utilizes biological systems, living organisms or parts of them to develop or create different products. BIOEFFECT was founded by three Icelandic scientists when they discovered, after over a decade of research, a way to bioengineer a plant-based human replica of EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) in barley plants – making it the first and only brand with plant-based growth factors.

GREEN IS GOOD

In barley we found a plant whose complexity and characteristics are perfectly suited to our biotechnology. It is grown in inert volcanic pumice, using geothermal energy and pure Icelandic water enriched with nutrients. Our ecologically-engineered greenhouse is nestled in the lava fields of Reykjanes Peninsula and can nurture up to 130,000 barely plants at a time.

THE RESULTS ARE IN

We pride ourselves on the fact that we do not rely on the self-assessment studies that are so prevalent in the skincare industry. Instead, we have done around 50 scientific in-house studies, most of which are double-blind placebo-controlled efficacy studies lasting from 2 months up to 3 years. The results of these studies clearly show that topical application of growth factors has a powerful effect on skin rejuvenation processes. The efficacy studies are also backed up by independent clinical studies. In an independent double-blind split-face study, BIOEFFECT EGF SERUM demonstrated up to:
30% increase in skin density
60% increase in skin thickness*
